Neumos Presents: Steve Kimock with Bernie Worrell, Wally Ingram and Andy Hess + The True Spokes
Wednesday October 3rd, 2012
Who is Steve Kimock? Lemme break it down. He’s a gnarly guitar icon, a master of improvisation, a guitar whisperer. He’s a musician who has been playing music for almost 40 years and continues to get better with time. Kimock’s repertoire spans decades as well as genres, and to quote his own website, “While one can say that his genre is rock, no one niche has ever confined him.” And that’s some spot-on, powerful truth.
Kimock plays electric, acoustic, lap and pedal steel guitars. He has a reputation for seducing crowds with his psychedelic improvisations that build upon themselves and culminate in what can only be described as explosive melodies that captivate.
Kimock formed a number of bands throughout his career. Most notable, Zero in the ‘80s, KVHW in the ‘90s and Steven Kimock & Friends in more recent years. Actually, he’s played with so many well-known, incredibly talented musicians that in order to list them all, I’d have to refer you to his 2 page, single spaced Word document bio. Here.
Once touted by Jerry Garcia as his “favorite unknown guitar player”, Kimock is back on the road (with a reputation to work with) for the first time in two years and he’s bringing The Wizard of Woo Bernie Worrell on keys (Parliament Funkadelic, Talking Heads), drummer Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow, David Lindley), and bassists Andy Hess (Gov’t Mule, Black Crowes) and Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green, SKB)
Now that you know about Steve Kimock it’s time to go see how he holds up to his reputation!
